Product Overview

The MITECH MH180 Leeb Hardness Tester is a portable and cost-effective device designed for rapid and accurate hardness measurement of metal materials using the dynamic Leeb rebound principle. Compact and user-friendly, this instrument is ideal for on-site inspections, particularly in situations where testing large or permanently assembled parts is required.

The MH180 supports multiple hardness scales including HL, HB, HRC, HRB, HRA, HV, and HS, making it versatile for applications in quality control, manufacturing, failure analysis, and metal processing. With a robust ABS plastic housing and long battery life, the MH180 is built for tough industrial environments.

Key Features

  • Compact and lightweight design for easy portability

  • Wide hardness range from 170 to 960 HLD

  • Supports conversion to various scales: HL, HB, HRC, HRB, HRA, HV, and HS

  • Resolution accuracy of ±6 HLD

  • Stores up to 100 sets of test data

  • USB port for data communication and PC connection

  • Long operational time with up to 100 hours on two AA batteries

  • Supports multiple impact directions with automatic recognition

Applications

  • Die cavities and mold tools

  • Bearings and moving machine parts

  • Failure analysis of pressure vessels, steam generators, and piping

  • Large or heavy metal components that cannot be moved

  • Permanently installed machinery

  • Hard-to-reach or narrow surface areas

  • Rapid identification of materials in warehouses

  • Large-surface hardness testing across multiple points

Working Principle

The MH180 operates using the Leeb rebound method. A standard impact body strikes the test surface under a known force, and the rebound velocity is measured. The ratio of rebound velocity to impact velocity is used to calculate the Leeb hardness value using the formula:

HL = 1000 × VB / VA

Where:

  • HL is the Leeb hardness value

  • VB is the rebound velocity

  • VA is the impact velocity
