Working Principle

The Vickers test method applies a defined force through a diamond pyramid-shaped indenter onto the material’s surface. After the force is removed, the diagonals of the resulting impression are measured. The Vickers hardness value (HV) is calculated using the following formula:

HV ≈ 0.1891 × F / d²

Where:

  • HV = Vickers hardness value

  • F = Test force in newtons (N)

  • d = Average diagonal length of the indentation in millimeters (mm)

The Mitech MHV-1 offers high-resolution microhardness testing with a compact, lab-ready design, making it a reliable tool for precise material evaluation.
