Product Overview

The Mitech MW-BB75 Webster Hardness Tester is a compact, handheld device specifically designed for quick, non-destructive hardness testing of aluminum, copper alloys, and similar soft metals. Built with a clamp-style mechanism, it enables on-site testing without the need for cutting or preparing samples. Its analog dial offers immediate readability of results, making it highly suitable for quality inspections in manufacturing, construction, and engineering projects.

This tester is part of Mitech’s MW series and is frequently used in industries producing aluminum and copper-based materials, such as windows, doors, curtain walls, and structural components. Its lightweight design and straightforward operation make it an ideal tool for improving quality control processes and reducing testing costs.

Key Features

  • Compact and lightweight design for single-handed use in the field or production lines

  • Corrosion-resistant body that maintains precision even after exposure to salt spray (5% for 4 hours)

  • Durable structure tested to withstand 100 drops from a height of 0.5 meters without losing accuracy

  • Fast and easy testing without destroying or altering the material surface

  • No need for specialized skills, making it suitable for all skill levels

  • Can test a variety of shapes and sizes of workpieces, including long or heavy parts

  • Clear analog dial with separate display for easy reading during operation

  • Supplied with calibration blocks for quick recalibration and accuracy maintenance

Applications

  • Verifying the hardness of aluminum or copper alloys in manufacturing lines

  • Detecting improper heat treatment or alloy inconsistencies

  • Inspecting large and heavy parts that cannot be tested with traditional equipment

  • Used by manufacturers of doors, windows, and curtain walls

  • Performing quality checks in construction, mechanical installations, and engineering projects

  • Supporting inspections by technical control agencies and supervisory departments

Working Principle

The MW-BB75 works on the indentation principle. A spring-loaded indenter applies force to the surface of the material, and the depth of the resulting mark is inversely related to its hardness. The result is shown on an analog dial in units of HW (Webster Hardness), which can be converted to other common hardness units such as HV (Vickers) or HR (Rockwell) using standard conversion tables.

  • If the material is soft or poorly aligned, the dial will remain at 0 HW

  • If the hardness exceeds the measurable range, the pointer will indicate the maximum value (20 HW)

Specifications

  • Measuring range: 0–20 HW

  • Resolution accuracy: 0.5 HW

  • Main unit weight: 0.5 kg

  • Package dimensions: 29.5 × 21.5 × 12 cm

  • Total weight (including packaging): 1.5 kg

  • Working time: Manual operation (not battery-powered)

  • Communication and storage: Not applicable

Operating Guidelines

  • Ensure the sample surface is flat, clean, and free from oil, coatings, or debris

  • Align the workpiece correctly between the indenter and anvil before applying pressure

  • Squeeze the handle firmly until a stop is felt—this activates the reading mechanism

  • Read the hardness value once the pointer stabilizes

  • Avoid twisting or moving the sample during testing to prevent inaccurate results

  • Do not perform tests without a sample (“air test”) as this may damage the pointer mechanism

  • Store in a dry environment and always use the original case for protection

  • Clean regularly and avoid disassembling the meter head without proper tools or expertise

The Mitech MW-BB75 is a trusted tool for professionals needing reliable, non-destructive hardness testing in demanding field or industrial environments.
