Operating Guidelines

  • Apply coupling medium (e.g., oil, water, or gel) between the probe and test surface

  • Place the probe firmly and perpendicularly on the material surface

  • For pipes larger than 4 inches, align the probe gap perpendicular to the pipe axis; for smaller pipes, take both perpendicular and parallel readings and use the smaller value

  • When testing high-temperature surfaces, calibrate with a similar heated sample and use a suitable high-temperature probe

  • For laminated or composite materials, account for internal air gaps that may distort measurements

  • Regularly calibrate using reference blocks for accuracy
