Working Principle

The Vickers test involves pressing a pyramid-shaped diamond indenter into the test surface under a constant force for a fixed time. Once the force is removed, the diagonal length of the indentation is measured using an optical microscope. The hardness value is calculated using the formula:

HV ≈ 0.1891 × F / d²

Where:

  • HV = Vickers hardness value

  • F = Applied test force (in newtons)

  • d = Average of the two indentation diagonals (in millimeters)

The Mitech MHV-5 is a versatile and high-precision tool designed to meet the rigorous demands of modern hardness testing in both industrial and research settings.
