    Operates for up to 30 hours using two AA batteries with power-saving functions.

  • Enhanced Calibration Options:
    V-path correction and multi-point calibration ensure improved accuracy across different material types.

Applications

  • Thickness testing of pipelines, pressure vessels, and storage tanks

  • Inspection of coated surfaces without removing paint or insulation

  • Measurement of metal, ceramic, plastic, glass, and composite materials

  • Corrosion monitoring and wall thinning evaluation

  • Quality assurance in manufacturing, shipbuilding, aerospace, and petrochemical sectors

Operating Principle

The MT660 works on the pulse-echo principle. An ultrasonic wave is sent into the material, and the device measures the time it takes for the wave to reflect back from the opposite surface. The thickness is calculated using the formula:

H = v × t / 2
Where:
H = Material thickness
v = Speed of sound in the material
t = Time of the echo round trip

Best Practices

  • For pipes, align the probe perpendicular or parallel depending on diameter for optimal readings

  • Use high-temperature probes for hot surfaces and calibrate at working temperatures

  • Always calibrate on the specific batch when measuring laminated or composite materials

  • Use appropriate couplants like glycerin, propylene glycol, or silicone oil for consistent sound transmission

  • Avoid air gaps and poor coupling which can distort results
