Working Principle
The MW-20a operates using the indentation method, where a spring-loaded punch creates a shallow dent on the material surface. The hardness is read on an analog dial calibrated in Webster Hardness units (HW). A higher reading indicates a harder material. These values can also be converted into standard hardness units like HV or HR using conversion charts.
-
0 HW: very soft material or incorrect placement
-
20 HW: full-scale maximum hardness

Operating Method and Safety Notes
-
Ensure full contact between the sample and the anvil with the surface perpendicular to the indenter
-
Apply consistent grip force to avoid inaccurate readings
-
Do not twist the workpiece during testing to prevent dial pointer damage
-
Avoid dry (air) testing as it may wear out the red indicator needle
-
Hold the tester steady until the pointer stabilizes for an accurate reading
-
Read the dial directly from above to reduce parallax error
-
Do not disassemble the head unit as it contains precision-integrated components
The Mitech MW-20a is a rugged, dependable solution for field and factory hardness inspections, helping manufacturers maintain product quality while optimizing efficiency and cost.
