Product Overview
The Mitech MW-B92 is a portable Webster hardness tester specifically designed for aluminum and soft alloy materials. As part of Mitech’s trusted MW series, this model provides rapid, non-destructive testing (NDT) for surface hardness directly on-site. It features a clamp-style design for easy, one-handed operation, and delivers precise readings with a resolution of 0.1 HW.
Ideal for quality control and inspection tasks in aluminum processing industries, the MW-B92 is commonly used for evaluating the hardness of aluminum extrusions, doors, windows, curtain walls, rods, tubes, and other structural or decorative components. Its durability, portability, and ease of use make it a preferred tool for production environments, laboratories, and field testing.

Applications
-
Hardness testing of aluminum profiles, extrusions, and structural components
-
Inspection of aluminum products in door, window, and curtain wall manufacturing
-
Quality control for aluminum tubes, rods, bars, and sheets
-
Material verification in industries such as sporting goods, stationery, and travel equipment manufacturing
-
In-process control and acceptance testing on production lines and construction sites
Working Principle
The MW-B92 operates using the indentation principle. A spring-loaded punch applies force to the surface of the test material. The depth of the indentation is inversely proportional to the material’s hardness. The hardness value is shown directly on an analog dial in Webster Hardness units (HW), with a range of 0 to 20 HW. Readings can also be converted into Vickers (HV) or Rockwell (HR) using conversion charts.
-
0 HW indicates soft material or poor contact
-
20 HW represents the maximum measurable hardness on this scale

Operating Conditions
-
Sample surface must be clean, oil-free, and free of debris
-
Paint or coating should be removed prior to testing using sanding or solvents
-
Avoid using in areas with high humidity, corrosive gases, or excessive vibration
-
Exercise caution when testing materials thinner than 0.88 mm to prevent “anvil effect” errors
-
For thin or soft samples, stack two identical pieces to improve measurement accuracy
Instructions & Cautions
-
Place the specimen between the indenter and anvil
-
Apply force until the handle stops naturally—do not use excessive pressure
-
Hold the handle steady and wait for the pointer to stabilize before reading
-
Avoid twisting or shifting the sample to prevent damage or inaccurate readings
-
Do not perform “air tests” or operate without a sample, as this may damage the internal pointer
-
Store the device in a dry environment and avoid unauthorized disassembly
-
Always use the original case for protection when the device is not in use
The Mitech MW-B92 is an efficient and precise solution for on-site aluminum hardness testing, designed to support quality control, reduce inspection costs, and streamline production processes across various industries.
