Product Overview

The Mitech MW-BB75a Webster Hardness Tester is a portable, clamp-style instrument engineered for fast, reliable hardness testing of copper alloys, aluminum alloys, and similar soft metals. Designed for non-destructive, on-site testing, it enables users to measure material hardness directly without the need for cutting or surface preparation. With its lightweight, one-handed operation and analog dial reading, the MW-BB75a is ideal for manufacturing quality control, field inspection, and engineering acceptance.

This tester is widely applied in aluminum profile fabrication, copper alloy product evaluation, and structural inspection projects such as doors, windows, tubes, and decorative materials. It offers an efficient way to detect improper alloy use, incomplete heat treatment, or out-of-specification materials during production.

Key Features

  • Compact and ergonomic clamp-style design for single-handed field use

  • Rugged housing with high corrosion resistance, surviving exposure to 5% salt spray for 4 hours

  • Durable construction, tested to withstand 100 drops from a height of 0.5 meters without calibration drift

  • Instant hardness measurement displayed via analog dial in HW (Webster Hardness)

  • No destructive cutting or sample preparation required

  • Accurate and repeatable readings with a resolution of 0.5 HW

  • Adaptable to a wide variety of material shapes and sizes

  • Includes calibration blocks for regular accuracy checks

  • Display positioned separately from the handle to prevent visual obstruction during testing

Applications

  • On-site hardness testing of copper alloy and aluminum profiles

  • Evaluation of heat treatment effectiveness on metal parts

  • Inspection of long or heavy workpieces not suitable for benchtop testers

  • Quality control in manufacturing of doors, windows, curtain walls, pipes, and frames

  • Field and lab testing by engineering inspection teams and quality auditors

Working Principle

The MW-BB75a operates using the indentation principle. A spring-loaded indenter presses against the surface of the material, creating an impression. The hardness is determined by the depth of the indentation, which inversely correlates to material hardness. The result, expressed in HW (Webster Hardness), is read directly on the dial and may be converted to other standard scales such as HV (Vickers) or HR (Rockwell) as needed.

  • Pointer at 0 HW indicates extremely soft material or improper contact

  • Pointer at 20 HW indicates maximum range or very hard material

Specifications

  • Measuring range: 0–20 HW

  • Resolution accuracy: 0.5 HW

  • Main unit weight: 0.5 kg

  • Package dimensions: 29.5 × 21.5 × 12 cm

  • Total weight (including packaging): 1.5 kg

  • Communication/storage: Not applicable

  • Power: Manual (no battery required)

Operating Guidelines

  • Position the sample firmly between the indenter and the anvil

  • Ensure the contact surface is clean, flat, and perpendicular to the tool

  • Squeeze the handle until firm resistance is felt, then read the dial value

  • Avoid applying excessive force or testing without a sample (“air testing”)

  • Maintain a steady handle position and ensure direct viewing of the dial to reduce parallax error

  • Avoid twisting or shifting the workpiece during testing to prevent damage and ensure accuracy

  • Do not attempt to disassemble the integrated dial head

The Mitech MW-BB75a is a practical, precise tool for operators who need a rugged and user-friendly solution for portable hardness testing of soft metal materials
