High-Performance Portable X-ray System for Internal Defect Detection

The Mitech XXG2005 Inflatable X-ray Flaw Detector is a versatile, portable non-destructive testing (NDT) device designed for the inspection of internal flaws in metal components, welds, and various industrial materials. By employing differential X-ray absorption, the system provides high-resolution images that reveal cracks, inclusions, and voids, making it an essential tool for quality control and maintenance in critical infrastructure.

Its lightweight, inflatable tube design and microcomputer-controlled interface make it particularly suitable for demanding field environments, including construction sites, elevated locations, and confined spaces.

Key Features

  • Portable and inflatable structure designed for field and remote inspections

  • Microprocessor control for accurate operation and simple user interface

  • Automatic over-temperature shutdown to protect the X-ray tube

  • Stable output with independent adjustment of mA and kV parameters

  • Built-in anti-interference circuitry for safe and reliable operation

  • Real-time error display for quick diagnostics and troubleshooting

  • Delayed exposure function to allow the operator to vacate the hazard zone

  • Isolated circuitry for enhanced electrical safety

  • Compatible with fluctuating power supplies in rugged environments

Applications

  • Shipbuilding and marine structures

  • Aerospace and aircraft component testing

  • Railway construction and rolling stock maintenance

  • Pressure vessel and boiler inspections

  • Oil and gas pipeline integrity assessment

  • Chemical and petrochemical processing plants

  • Structural and heavy machinery fabrication

  • Military and defense equipment inspections

This model is particularly effective in mobile or high-altitude scenarios where traditional flaw detection equipment may be difficult to use.

Working Principle

The XXG2005 generates high-voltage X-rays that penetrate the material under test. When the X-rays pass through the object, they are absorbed at different rates depending on the material’s thickness and density. The resulting radiation is captured on a special film, producing an image that highlights internal inconsistencies. The unit uses a silicon-controlled rectifier and pulse transformer to produce stable high-voltage pulses required for X-ray generation.

Technical Specifications

  • Working temperature: -25°C to +40°C

  • Relative humidity: ≤ 85%

  • Safe operating pressure: 0.35–0.50 MPa (do not operate below 0.35 MPa)

  • Package dimensions:

    • Box 1: 40.5 × 40 × 72.5 cm

    • Box 2: 47 × 47 × 33 cm

  • Total weight: 45–80 kg (including all components and packaging)

  • X-ray film: Uses specialized film with silver halide emulsion

  • Output system: High-voltage SCR and pulse transformer

  • Radiation safety: Supports delay mode (0.1 to 5 minutes) for safe distancing

  • Control interface: Digital with exposure timer, kV adjustment, and status indicators

  • Cooling: Automatic fan cycle after exposure to protect internal components

Operation Guide

  • Power on the unit to initialize the control system and ventilation

  • Set the desired exposure time and kV level depending on material properties

  • Perform tube preheating to stabilize internal vacuum

  • Press the “HV” key to begin exposure; system will auto-count the set time

  • If needed, hold “HV” for 3 seconds to enable delay start (0.1–5 minutes)

  • Allow the system to enter rest mode for cooling after exposure

Safety Guidelines

  • Use shielding such as 2 mm lead plates or maintain a 20-meter exclusion zone

  • Regularly monitor air pressure; do not use below 0.35 MPa

  • Ensure grounding of the control unit to avoid electrical hazards

  • Do not interrupt power during post-exposure cooldown cycles

  • Always use recommended X-ray film and lead foil screens for optimal results

The Mitech XXG2005 combines high accuracy, reliable imaging, and field-ready durability—making it a preferred choice for industrial X-ray flaw detection.
